Inaugural Input

After many hours milling about south of the border, through the states and finally into an area where abundant time on computers is available, we have joined bloggerville. Through the next few months this will be our electronic outreach to the outside world while journeying around Lake Superior's senic shores. So take a break from whatever it is you are doing and read about what's happening on or around the Greatest Lake of them all...

Down to the beeeeaaacchhh boi




Where the land meets inland sea. It draws us in. Sometimes into the cold clear water, others to its elongated shores, searching for Agates or just enjoying glacial process and the sandy goodness betwixt the toes...

Ponderin the Paddle

Its always a trip to explain to folks why Superior, why now...
The easier notion to take is, "why not?" - Over the previous few years of guiding I have fallen accustomed to the soothing sound of waves lapping at the beach, the flow of the waves in betwixt islands and the irreplacable/ sometimes unexplainable beauty which surrounds the Apostle Island National Lakeshore. However, utilizing a part time persona as a space case, I too see many more miles of shoreline to this lake. This body of water which holds all the other Great Lakes, plus a few extra Eries within its boundaries. Its that immensity, uncertainty and beauty which draws me out onto the water. Guiding is a glorious way to blend education with exploration, but sometimes you need to just get out and experience what greater power has to offer. For that reason along with several others, I gain increasing excitement to experience this Lake. After all the daily question shouldn't be if you're going paddling today, but when...

Devilish Caves




Somewhere out yonderway, beyond the brink of those close-to-land islands you encounter Devils Island. Amidst isolation it holds some of the most magnificent sandstone sea caves sculpted by wind, waves and ice. Righteous!
